John Deere Agricultural Award of Excellence

SPENCER, Iowa — May 5, 2008 –  The Clay County Fair has received a First Place Agricultural Award of Excellence from the International Association of Fairs and Exhibitions (IAFE) headquartered in Springfield, Missouri.  The Award was received for Best Agricultural Photograph, “Clean Sweep,” which was taken by Judy Hemphill of Spencer.

There are a total of 13 Agriculture Award categories, each divided into 5 divisions by attendance, that a Fair or Expo can enter.  The Clay County Fair competed in Division 3 for attendance of 250,001 to 500,000.  The entries were evaluated and judged by a team of industry leaders.  These individuals were selected from the membership of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions, which includes over 3,200 affiliates from around the globe.

The honors were presented during the Agricultural Awards Breakfast at the 117th Annual IAFE Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada.  These awards are sponsored by John Deere, an avid supporter of the fair and expo industry worldwide.

The agricultural fair and expo industry is not only important to rural and urban economies globally, but is also steeped in tradition and has a positive impact on the social well being of rural and urban society.

“Clean Sweep” depicts a sunset, behind-the-scene view of an adult and child wielding brooms in the Clay County Fair Swine Barn.  Prints can be seen in Spencer at Arts on Grand, 408 North Grand Avenue; in Milford at CR Gallery, 912 Okoboji Avenue; in Peterson at McGee Gallery & Framing, 217 Main; and in Arnolds Park at Side Street Gallery & Frame Shoppe, 28 Allen Avenue.
